Who we are
GraveNews (grave.news) is responsible for the personal data described here. Write to editor@grave.news about anything on this page.
Reading the paper
You can read every story without an account and without a tracking cookie. We count how many times each story is read, and Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views without cookies or following you from site to site. None of it is tied to you.
Your browser keeps a few small notes of its own: whether you prefer the Day Edition or the Graveyard Shift, how many stories you have read, and whether you have already joined The Wake or the Burial Club, so we know which box to show you at the end of a story. They stay on your device.
The Wake, our newsletter
When you sign up we keep your email address, which editions you chose, when and where you signed up, the exact words you agreed to, whether you asked for news of the Burial Club and the shop, your referral link and who referred you, and whether our emails reach you or are marked as spam. We use them to send you The Wake because you asked us to, and to credit you for friends who join. The emails are sent by Resend.
You can leave at any time with the link at the foot of every edition. We then keep your address on a do-not-email list, so we never write to you again by mistake. Sign-ups that are never confirmed are deleted after 30 days.
The Burial Club
If you become a member we keep your email address, your tier, how often you pay and whether your membership is active. Stripe takes the payment, as the seller of record, and holds your card details: we never see them. We sign you in with a link sent to your email. We use all of this to provide your membership, and keep it while you are a member and for two years after, in case of a question about a payment.
Things you send us
Letters, pitches, your name and occupation if you volunteer to be quoted, death notices and front-page orders are kept so we can consider them and, where you have asked, publish them. Ask us to take something down and we will.
Keeping the place safe
Our forms are checked by Cloudflare Turnstile to keep out bots, and Cloudflare keeps short-lived technical logs to protect the site from attack.
Who else handles your data
Cloudflare (hosting, storage and security), Resend (email) and Stripe (payments) handle data for us under contract. Our merchandise shop is run by Teemill, on its own site under its own privacy notice. Some of these companies process data outside the UK, protected by the safeguards UK law requires. We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or make automated decisions about you.
Your rights
You can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to our use of it, take a copy of it with you, or withdraw your consent. Write to editor@grave.news. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or the data protection authority where you live.
