Terms
The rules of the house, such as they are.
It is satire
Every story, headline, quote and caption in GraveNews is fiction. Real people and institutions appear as satire and commentary, and nothing here is a statement of fact or a piece of advice. If you think something about you has crossed a line, write to editor@grave.news.
Reading and sharing
The paper is free to read. Share links as widely as you like, and quote a few lines with a link back. Please do not republish whole stories, woodcuts or portraits, or copy the site wholesale, without asking. The stories, woodcuts, portraits and masthead belong to GraveNews; photographs belong to their photographers and are used under the licences credited beside them.
The Wake
The newsletter is free, and you can leave at any time with the link in every edition.
The Burial Club
- Memberships renew each month or year until you cancel. Cancel whenever you like from your account; your perks last until the end of the time you have paid for.
- Prices include any VAT or sales tax. Payments are taken by Stripe, which sells memberships as the seller of record.
- Perks are delivered in the paper's own way and at the editor's discretion. Being quoted means one of our columnists writes a quote for you. A commissioned story is written by the paper, which chooses the angle and may decline a subject. Your name appears in the Book of Condolences only if you ask for it.
- Gift memberships last for the time bought and do not renew.
- We may change prices or perks, and will tell you by email before a change affects you. Founding members keep their price for as long as their membership continues unbroken.
Things you send us
When you send a letter, a pitch, your name for a vox pop, a death notice or a front-page order, you let us publish and adapt it as described, and you promise it is yours to give and that anyone named in it has agreed. We may decline anything.
If something goes wrong
Write to editor@grave.news and we will put it right or refund you. Nothing in these terms takes away your rights under consumer law.
The legal part
GraveNews is provided as it is. We are not responsible for anything done on the strength of a satirical story, and nothing here limits a responsibility the law does not let us limit. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales; if you live elsewhere, you keep the protections your own country's law gives you.
